How we tackle novel scientific discoveries
Our research interest lies in the photoinduced dynamics of various systems, from molecules to energy materials. There are a number of photoinduced dynamics such as energy & charge transfer, excimer formation, singlet fission, intersystem crossing, internal conversion, and so on. As you might have expected (or known already), these processes play key roles in many optoelectronic devices including photocatalysts and solar cells.
For example, both energy & charge transfer dynamics are essential for solar cell applications. In this respect, our questions are: 1) Can we understand the fundamental mechanisms of photoinduced dynamics & revealing structure-property relationships? 2) Can we control photoinduced dynamics by changing the environments and introducing light as a stimulus?
Two specific aims of our research are:
1) Understanding mechanisms
To observe photoinduced dynamics from fs to ms and reveal fundamental mechanisms and structure-property relationships
2) Controlling dynamics
To control photoinduced dynamics by chemical modifications, external electric/magnetic field, and light sources
